Falke Pisano’s artistic practice is defined by its participation in the theoretical discourse surrounding contemporary art; she uses her work to explore connections between objects, abstraction, language, and performance.

Falke Pisano lives and works in Amsterdam. Her diagrammatic works expose a loop, in which shifting abstract sculptural forms are conceived directly in relation to written and spoken language, implying an ongoing and morphing production of meaning. In the publication ‘’Figures of Speech’’ (designed and co-edited by Will Holder, published by JRP-Ringier, Christoph Keller Editions, 2010) Pisano brought together her work focusing on the act of speech in relation to different forms of agency in artistic production. The artist second cycle of works (2011-) “The Body in Crisis” consists of a series of propositions and inquiries that look at the body in crisis as an ongoing event.

Falke Pisano’s artistic practice is defined by its participation in the theoretical discourse surrounding contemporary art; she uses her work to explore connections between objects, abstraction, language, and performance. In the series “Figures of Speech” (2005-10), Pisano questioned the nature of language and its relationship to concrete things, using written texts, spoken words, and recorded statements and lectures interspersed with original monologues. Other works are grounded in modernist sculpture by Eduardo Chillida and others, using it as a basis from which to consider the boundaries of the physical and the abstract. Deeming the pieces “abstract concrete objects”, Pisano suggests that these sculptures exist because the creations, as objects, have a place “within language, within art, within ideas.

Pisano’s was the 2023 Superhost at MHKA, Antwerp. She participated in major groups shows such as the Venice Bienial (2009) and Manifesta (2008). She performed at Museo Reina Sofia (2012), the 5th Berlin Biennale (2008).
