Jeremiah Day is participating in the 2026 edition of Welcome Stranger, together with Salim Bayri, John Körmeling, and Klaartje van Essen.
In Welcome Stranger, you’re invited to discover art in an unexpected setting: on the own houses of the artists. Artists will create new works, transforming façades and rooftops across different locations.
Jeremiah Day will led a workshop session/performance titled What is Freedom? - What is the Question? six times during June.
Dates: Fridays and Saturdays June 12- 26 from 14.00 - 17.00 and last session on Sunday 28th from 18.00 - 20.00.
Registration via this link.
For almost twenty years, Jeremiah Day has been facilitating the democratic culture traditions of “new dance,” especially the logomotion movement-speech improvisation form of Simone Forti.
The roots of this tradition lead to movement and performance as socializing, embodied processing, healing, story and art-making. Often this work is at its best not for a still and silent audience, but in shared sessions, working with and for each other.
This project takes a new approach: the workshop itself as a kind of collaborative public art, the goal and site of shared production.
In the background as point of reference and departure will be the short text by Hannah Arendt “What Is Freedom?” and we will try to bridge between our own recent experiences of freedom and it’s opposite (both private and public).
Arendt’s thoughts will be there if needed as sparks, and we’ll build through deep grounding in the sensing, listening, composing and speaking body.
Each session will start with a warm-up, develop through exercises and lead to improvisational performances, for each other.
These performances will be notated through simple movement notations and audio recordings (no video). Under the editorial eye of workshop participant and co-organizer Radna Rumping, a kind of summary report will be produced: a shared trace of the “us” that was formed in the workshop, and a snapshot to mark this moment - summer 2026, Amsterdam, “freedom”? - our questioning, embodied, voiced, instantiated.

To support commitment and continuity within the group, we ask for a total contribution of €50 for participation in the workshop, covering all sessions.
If this amount presents a barrier, please feel free to reach out via info@welcomestranger.nl, we are happy to find a suitable arrangement together.
