Erkka Nissinen wins Illy Prize 2011 at Art Rotterdam

Rigid Regime 2009

Jury report:
An artistic production combined with both absurd as grotesque elements. Rigid Regime is an essential  and personal piece of work. According to the jury, the strongest  and most appreciated part of the video is the element of surprise; the secret and ending of the movie is not directly revealed what makes the video surprising and renewing.

Erkka Nissinen (Finland, 1975) combines acting in an actual studio with simplified computer animations within his videos. His videos are characterized by absurdity, humour and deliberate clumsiness. He always plays the main character in his videos that is undergoing extreme and almost unthinkable situations. In his nominated movie, Rigid Regime, he is experiencing the history of mankind in a surprising and innovative way.
